Respect

Respect is about central government, local agencies, local communities and ultimately every citizen working together to build a society in which we can respect one another - where anti-social behaviour is rare and tackled effectively, and communities can live in peace together.

In tackling the underlying causes of anti-social behaviour, intervening early where problems occur and broadening our efforts to address other areas of poor behaviour then communities become safer and grow stronger. The Life Skills Centre will contribute to the Respect Action Plan in:

  • Improving behaviour and dealing with those outside the education system
  • Activities for children and young people
  • Strengthening communities

With 40,087 reported crimes in Gloucestershire (January 2007) of which 9035 were in relation to criminal damage and 9243 for violent crime. The census areas of Westgate is where a disproportionate number of crimes occur with 1145 acts of violent crime being reported in nine months.

And whilst it is indiscriminate to its victims, there are correlations with regard to alcohol and night time activity and the level and type of crime occurring.
